SAN ANTONIO – When San Antonio hosts the 2018 NCAA Men’s Final Four, approximately 3,000 volunteers will be needed to roll out the South Texas red carpet and help make the event a success. The San Antonio Local Organizing Committee (SALOC) is looking for volunteers to help with a wide range of tasks in late March and early April, from greeting fans at the airport to helping with events downtown and transporting VIPs. Volunteers need to pre-register, be at least 18 years of age, work a minimum of two four-hour shifts and attend a mandatory orientation.
To register to become one of the 3,000 volunteers, visit http://www.ncaa.com/final-four. All volunteers must consent to a background check and sign a liability waiver to participate.
“Volunteers play a critical role in making our events a success and showcasing San Antonio,” says Jenny Carnes, executive director of SALOC. “Working at NCAA Final Four events is lots of fun, highly rewarding, and a great opportunity to be a part of the excitement.”
Since 1996, Deirdre Murphy has been a volunteer for San Antonio Sports, the SALOC partner that manages the volunteer corps, and loves the varied experiences she’s had with different events. “The Final Four has always been one of my favorite volunteer opportunities because college basketball is at the top of my list,” she explains. “I really enjoy getting to meet people from all over the world who are passionate about their teams and the sport of basketball. I am looking forward to the 2018 Final Four and showcasing San Antonio as the best place for visitors to spend some time!”
Final Four Fan Fest, March Madness Music Festival, Final Four Dribble, information centers, SALOC Command Center, courtesy car driver, media shuttle, 6th Man Squad and welcoming visitors at the airport are some of the areas volunteers are needed. Volunteers will receive a 2018 NCAA Final Four polo shirt, hat, and drawstring bag, not to mention the experience of a lifetime working on one of the top sporting events in the country.
